When you go into Victoria’s Secret or any woman’s section in a  department store you will see thousands of woman’s panties.  Lace, satin, silk, cotton, dark colors, light colors, string, maternity, stretch…. it all can be very overwhelming.  You may be thinking “do I get panties that match the color of my bra,” or “do I go for comfort or a more sexier look?” And of course, everyone wants the kind of panties that prevent the dreaded panty line.

The Thongs

Men love them but woman usually dread them who have not worn them. They look uncomfortable but,  if they are made well, are usually not. There are different kinds of thongs, but in general they do not have a rear. Thongs are found in most of the fabrics available and have lots of sexy styles to pick from. They’re also sold in baby doll or lingerie sets. Thong panties are a perfect solution to the dreaded panty line and are good for wearing skirts or tight pants.  Unlike satin panties they also down not have the drawback of your skin not being about to breath.

There is a drawback to thongs though. Some researchers feel that they increase the incidence for yeast infections since the fabric rides is close to the perineum. Cotton thongs may help prevent this problem.

The most popular style for women’s panties is the bikini cut, which usually have a rear, and are cut high at the thigh. They are often designed as low-rise to go with the popular low-rise pant trend.  Some bikini styles are made with string at the sides, while others have more fabric. Bikini cut panties come in most fabrics imaginable.

Boy Shorts

This style may not be the most pleasing category for your husband but it sure will be comfortable to you. Boy shorts have appeared in the lingerie scene not too long ago. Many women prefer them to any other types of woman’s panties. Boy shorts have a full rear and a sporty look. They look like short, tight shorts and were designed to prevent being shown if worn underneath low rise pants and skirts. Many women choose boy shorts when doing physical activities like going to the gym. If made out of a light fabric, there is little chance for a visible panty line, though you may wish to check if wearing a tight pair of pants or skirt.

High Rise/ Granny Panties

Okay, looking sexy is, well, great.  But there are some days in your life when you don’t care and want to have the most comfortable thing out there. High rise or granny panties provide a great deal of coverage and are probably the most comfortable. High rise panties are cut at the thigh, have full rears and often hit at the belly button or higher.  It won’t do you any favor if you want to avoid the panty line but that’s the only con to this style.  Granny panties are a popular choice for women while sleeping or during their period.

Cotton panties are, as most people know, the best option for health reasons especially woman prone to yeast infections. Cotton panties are often cheap, tend to last for a while and are comfortable. They can be tossed in the washing machine and dryer with no worry. Cotton is the best fabric choice for physical activities. Many manufacturers now dress up cotton panties with colors, patterns and even ribbons and lace.

Silk and satin panties are popular choices for women who want a more expensive, and sexy look. Silk and satin panties may need to be hand-washed with special detergent so they are not recommended for use during your period. Some silk and satin panties are heavily embellished with lace, and may show through your clothing.

Lycra is becoming a popular fabric choice for panties now. Lycra is can be optimal for panties since it provides a stretch, may help prevent visible panty line and provide seamless support. In panties, Lycra is often combined with cotton and/or nylon.

So which one do you want to buy.  The cotton panties or the satin panties?  The bikini cut or the G-string.  That all depends on the activity you will be doing, the occasion, and frankly, how you want to feel.
